Releveling Hunter Valley tennis court after drainage collapse

Our Brief

Outside a Hunter Valley property, the back corner of a tennis court had cracked due to sloping downwards a monstrous 300mm. With the downward slope towards the back corner and a large crack in the tennis court, the court could no longer be used by the owner or local tennis players.

The owner of the tennis court had initially contacted a plumber as they suspected a stormwater drain under the court had broken. They were right.

The plumber used a CCTV camera to get under the court to diagnose the problem and found a significant amount of foundation soil had washed away, leading to the collapse of the court.

Knowing Buildfix to be experts at releveling concrete slabs, the owner got in touch for a permanent solution.

Our Challenge

Upon our arrival we carried out our usual analysis process but it didn’t take much for us to determine the plumber had been correct in his assumptions.

Foundation soil had indeed been washed away and a large gap was staring at us from underneath the court. The problem was glaringly obvious.

In anticipation of our arrival, the owner of this Hunter Valley property had already rerouted the stormwater drainage from the house away from the tennis court.

This allowed our team to begin deploying our solution.

Our Solution

As so much foundation soil had been washed away, the first thing we needed to do was give the tennis court something stable to sit back on.

In order to do this, we used our proprietary geopolymer resin solution, GeoPoly™. We drilled access holes in strategically chosen points on the tennis court. Through the access holes, we injected GeoPoly™ into the eroded soil.

By doing so, we were able to fill the large voids under the tennis court as well as solidify the ground so sinking would never occur again.

The Outcome

With our proprietary technology and progressive techniques we were able to lift the tennis court back up by a huge 300mm. Considering the weight of such a large concrete slab, this is a significant achievement.

Later, the owner of the tennis court had the cracks repaired by local builders to remove any trip hazards. This restored the court so it could be played on again.

With the stormwater drainage rerouted and the tennis court sitting on a stable surface, the owner and local tennis players are now able to play on the court with complete confidence.
